Noida International Airport Gets Key Licence – Flights Likely to Start Soon

Noida International Airport gets key licence from India’s aviation regulator, marking a major step toward starting commercial flight operations. The new airport located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is now closer than ever to welcoming its first passengers and becoming a major aviation hub for the National Capital Region.

The aerodrome licence was issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), confirming that the airport meets all required safety and operational standards needed to begin domestic flight services and cargo operations.

Key Milestone for Noida International Airport

Receiving the licence is considered a major milestone for the Noida International Airport project. Officials confirmed that with this approval, final preparations for flight operations are now underway.

Authorities expect the remaining operational arrangements to be completed within approximately 45 days, after which the airport could begin handling passenger and cargo flights.

The development follows several important approvals, including security clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), which ensured that the airport meets national security and safety requirements.

Infrastructure Ready for Flight Operations

The airport infrastructure has been largely completed and is prepared for operational launch. Key facilities already developed include:

  • Passenger terminal building
  • Air traffic control tower
  • Runway and taxiways
  • Cargo handling infrastructure
  • Advanced navigation and safety systems

The first phase of the airport is spread across around 1,300 hectares and will initially handle about 12 million passengers per year.

Once all future expansion phases are completed, the airport is expected to become one of the largest aviation hubs in India.

Boost for NCR Connectivity and Economy

The Noida International Airport gets key licence at a time when air traffic demand in the National Capital Region continues to grow. The airport is expected to reduce congestion at Delhi’s existing airport and provide a new gateway for domestic and international travel.

Experts believe the airport will significantly boost:

  • Regional connectivity
  • Tourism and business travel
  • Logistics and cargo movement
  • Employment opportunities
  • Real estate and industrial development near Jewar

The project is being developed through a public-private partnership model, with Zurich Airport International involved in its development and operations.

When Will Flights Start from Jewar Airport?

After the Noida International Airport gets key licence, officials estimate that commercial flight services could begin within around 45 days once operational readiness procedures are completed.

Initially, the airport will start with domestic passenger flights and cargo operations, while international flights may begin later as the airport expands.

The inauguration of the airport is expected to take place after final scheduling by the government.

Future of Noida International Airport

The Noida International Airport project is planned in multiple phases. Over time, it will add more terminals and runways to increase its passenger capacity significantly.

Once fully developed, the airport could handle tens of millions of passengers annually, making it one of the most important aviation infrastructure projects in India.
